Project 52:12

Newfoundland is

succumbing to autumn.

I clung to this amazing Newfoundland summer for as long as I could, but things are looking  orange and yellow and fall-like.

Thankfully, the temperatures haven't dropped to the point where it is unbearable to be outside. In fact, I've been wandering around my yard a lot lately to document through Instagram all the little seasonal changes that don't occur when you live in Florida and Texas.

One of the neat things about being an American living in Canada is celebrating Thanksgiving in October, and then again in November.

I have so much to be thankful for. Sometimes I list everything in our lives that are going right, and I feel downright superstitious. Why us? Why are we blessed with so much when so many people around the world are blessed with so little?

I am the first to admit that the choices of our great grandparents, and grandparents, and parents have so much to do with our ability to go to college, and find love, and good jobs, and live a life free from debt and tremendous hardship.

So even though we work hard and are relatively prudent, I a lot of  luck allows me to live this life I love.

Every once in awhile, I get this twisted feeling in my gut. I feel like it has been too easy, that we haven't had to struggle enough, and we're due for our share of obstacles to overcome.

Wow. The cheerful thanksgiving message I meant to post got dark pretty quickly.

When thoughts like these hit me, I say a quick prayer that we're ready to face anything that comes our way with grace, and then I think of happier things.

Like cranberry sauce.

Mmmm.

Happy (early) Thanksgiving!

You too?!?! I swear I think these things... Ever since I had no idea what to write for my law school essay "Describe an obstacle you had to overcome and how" and I drew a blank. I think I made something up. There was a modern family episode the other day like this. The mom left the daughter stranded in the middle of nowhere so she could have something to write lol
