Self-help for the self-defeater

I've been on a documentary kick lately thanks to Netflix and general laziness. My favorites thus far:
No Impact Man
Babies
Dogs: Decoded
Face
Food Inc.
The Botany of Desire
This Emotional Life
The Science of Sex Appeal

When I'm not watching Netflix documentaries, I'm listening to podcasts. I'm partial to:
Stuff Mom Never Told You
Stuff You Should Know
Stuff You Missed In History Class
This American Life
The Splendid Table
The Writer's Almanac
The Nutrition Diva
The Get Stuff Done Guy
Fresh Air with Terri Gross (who I think might have my dream job)

I'm not sure why I'm on this self-help, learn new information or go to sleep, kick. I haven't really enjoyed literature or a good story lately. What if I'm entering a non-fiction epoch that I never leave? How sad.

The worst part about this obsession of mine, is that I take all this useful information that I could use to make my life healthier, more socially responsible, more inspired, etc. and I do nothing with it. I just sit there EATING and growing fatter and fatter, listening to this information, muttering to myself how fascinating it is, and then passing out on the couch doing nothing with it. It's all so depressing.

I'll just be irrational and blame it on Houston. Maybe when I leave Houston, I'll behave differently. That's so immature of me. I need to get out and do things and move around. Bleh.

I'm gonna go see whats new on Netflix.

I've had the same thoughts about lots of the self-helpy stuff I've read/watched over the years too. I think, though, that it does get into our lives bit by bit, at least by affecting our thoughts and opinions and personalities.

But yeah, applying this knowledge is key. Maybe that's why they say, "Wisdom is knowledge applied." :)
